History of Architecture Essay
1. Comparing and contrasting Minoan and Mycenaean architecture, describe how the two architectures are different and why. Minoan architecture was characterized by a number of structures that acted as epicenters for religious, commercial, and administrative lifestyles. In the recent past, archeologists discovered tombs, palaces, towns, and roads in Crete which symbolized the Minoan landscape. All this evidences the pre-historic culture that survived in the Aegean Sea. Minoan palaces were used to hold gatherings, workshop for artists and food stores. The palaces were multi-storied buildings with impressive exterior and interior staircases. The tombs were built in round shape with a flat wood-framed roof. It was not until Neopalatial period, 1700-1400 BC that Minoan towns started to emerge and easier linkage between the towns and palaces, roads were developed via the interior of the island (Marquand, 2008). On the other hand, Mycenaean architecture came into being in the Mycenaean period and most of their architecture is indebted to architecture of Minoans of Crete. An outstanding characteristic feature of Mycenaean architecture comprises of megaron, usage of exceptionally large stone blocks, corbel vaulting, and large fortification walls. Besides, the Bronze Age Citiesââ¬â¢ plan and layout on the mainland resembled that of palaces of Crete to a large extent. Some of the major Mycenaean architectural projects were huge tombs, city planning, and palace. Palaces in the Minoan period had an open, vast courtyard whereas in Mycenaean megaron ââ¬âindoor hall. Mycenaean architecture is also said to have been characterized by professional engineering works -evidenced by size of stone blocks used in constructing walls. Later their work was referred to as Cyclopean architecture by the Greeks and another distint feature from from the Minoans was the technique used in corbel vaulting. Therefore, Mycenaeans can be said to have been more technical in the architectural works as compared to the Minoans (Marquand, 2008). 2. Discuss the evolution of the Greek temple form from its early days as a megaron to how it is represented in the Hellenistic period. How and why did it evolve in the way that it did? A number of earliest Greek Temples are up to date the orientalizing and geometric periods. The temple had a votive model which in most cases was found in tombs and the basic geometric style of an ornament. The persistent advancement of the Greek Temple was was characterized by an addition of more columns, increased size, and inclusion of general underlying base of three steps. Therefore, the columnar screens and base generated a symbolic and visual transition from the normal world to the space of the temple. The progression of the Greek Temple involved a number of stages: the first stage is the megaron ââ¬âindoor hall- which saw it being used as temple and it was initiated in the Mycenaean period; second stage was characterized by initiation of peristyle and an increased size; stage three was evidenced by completion of the peristyle, integration of the monumentality of Egyptian temple, symmetrical construction, and architectural design in conformity with requirements of Golden Se ction (Marquand, 2008). The Greek Temple has therefore totally remained to be a monument and it does not seem to combine its setting with the Mycenaean and Minoan designs. The temple is also a major achievement by human beings to have accomplished and the Temple represents an exceptional object from the natural environment. Consequently, the Temple has continued to serve as a commemoration of the geographical sacredness and provision of sanctification through a terrace that acted as the templeââ¬â¢s pedestal. It is also worth noting that the aforesaid column parts of the Temple does not match to natural forms such as plants or trees since the basic assumption was to evoke a human rationale and reasoning as opposed to monumentalism. The masterpiece of Greek architecture continued to evolve into classical designs (500-323 BC) and Hellenistic designs (323-27 BC) and it was evidenced by improved engineering skills applied in constructing towers (Ibid, 2008). 3. Describe the sensory experience of the Panathenaic Procession that would lead you to the Acropolis and up into the complex. It is quite evident that when one takes a closer look in the historical books of ancient Greek and during the Classical period that there was a direct relationship between religion, politics, and art or architecture. Historians have established that first temples were created to house cults and in particular to facilitate religious practices in the community. Parthenon as a temple was spectacularly placed in the ââ¬ËHoly Cityââ¬â¢ of Acropolis and hence acted as a means with which people could link the temple to their past. A notable feature is the Panathenaic Procession as it represented the religious and social lifestyles of the Athenians. Besides, the Procession was part and parcel of festivities that honored Athena, panathenaea which was commemorated annually. The procession comprised of ritual presentation of new cloaks or peplos to the ceremonial Athena statue (Neils, 1992). After every four years, a presentation of a huge peplos was made to the Grand Panathenaea within the Parthenon. Subsequently, every other successive year, Panathenaic Procession was marked by peplos presentation to Athena within the Erechtheum. As a formality, the Panathenaic Procession was started at Diployn Gate and traversed Agora with the final destination being in Acropolis. The activity of most importance to the women as during the period they performed a lot of activities such as weaving and presenting huge peplos to Athena every fourth year in Pathenon and smaller peplos to Athena in Erechtheum on yearly basis. Phases of Procession were represented by the frieze of the Parthenon that extended to a length of about 160 Metres. It stretched from the South West end of the Temple ââ¬âwith horse riders- to the North and West sides before heading to South, West sides (Neils, 1992).

Young Volunteers
It can be quite a challenge to get teenagers to focus on anything other than the latest fashion and the latest technological gadgets, but instilling a sense of volunteerism and community service can go a long way toward making young people responsible and well rounded. This sense of responsibility and community service will be important, of course, as those teenagers grow and enter the world of college and career. It is never too early to instill a sense of community responsibility and involvement, and teens of all ages can benefit from those experiences. I believe participating in volunteer service is a beneficial for teens to be involved in because itââ¬â¢s constructive and by doing things that interest them, teens often gain new skills and find new career opportunities that they hadn't thought of before. In addition, the experiences gained in volunteer settings can provide teens with skills in leadership and decision-making, and also look attractive on college and scholarship applications. By Volunteering, Teens are exposed to people and circumstances they have not encountered in their life. Volunteers learn about respect and kindness; I can relate to this based on my own experience through working with the elderly, serving the homeless at a shelter, and mentoring disabled children. The advantages of such community service and community involvement are many, from a greater feeling of self satisfaction and self esteem to a better perception from college admission officers and hiring managers down the road. Besides finding new career opportunities, volunteering also provides teens with other skills necessary in the job market, skills that help with their education will also help in the business world. Volunteering also shows employers and colleges that they believe in making the world a better place and are willing to sacrifice their time and energy to do it. Finally, volunteering provides teens a chance to increase their knowledge in certain areas, and having that knowledge and impact will be extremely beneficial in the future. The impact the activities have may take years to show up, but even so, the impact is there. Volunteering is a win-win situation to both the volunteer and the community.

Personal Carbon And Emission Trading Environmental Sciences Essay
Until the nineteenth century industrial revolution, the power of C had fuelled the moving ridge of economic development which has delivered the modern society ââ¬Ës greatest achievements such as electric lighting, cars and flights. However in the latter half of the century it was noted that these promotions were non without a cost as the first hints of the effects of the society ââ¬Ës life style or progresss on the environment began to be noticed. The effects of increased C in our environment have led to the great climatic alterations that have left the universe with more losingss and potentially more loses in the hereafter as noted in the Stern ââ¬Ës study if the universe does non undertake the effects of clime alteration. As the universe unites to contend the consequence of clime alteration, a combination of regulative and market based mechanisms are being adopted to set a monetary value on clean air. While this poses a job to concerns with high environmental hazard records, it has created an wholly new industry focused on the emerging C markets market making chance for investors. The United Kingdom has sought of ways of cut downing the consequence of C on the environments and has piloted strategies like the Emissions Trading strategy which ran as a voluntary strategy and now has joined the European Union ETS covering approximately 27 EU states. The mark to cut down emanations by 34 % utilizing the 1990 baseline by 2020 can be achieved by non merely concentrating on merely concerns but besides on the domestic sector which accounts for about half the emanations in the United Kingdom. It will be of great involvement if the United Kingdom besides pioneers strategies that could assist in cut downing single ââ¬Ës C emanations as this will travel a long manner in assisting the universe in its battle against clime alteration.IntroductionThe consequence of clime alteration can be felt all around the universe. The old ages between 1995 and 2007 were specifically recorded as the twelveth warmest out of 13 since accurate instrumental records of the planetary surface a ir temperature began in 1850. Noted amongst other climatic alterations are the heat wave that occurred in Central Europe go forthing about 20,000 people dead, periods of remarkably strong air currents in Western Europe, over 15 million trees being blown down in the early hours of the forenoon in Southern England and London countries. Apart from storms, approximately 80 Hurricanes and Typhoons have been recorded which have claimed lives and Property. Floods of unusual speed has have besides occurred due to protract rainfall or drouths, because of long periods of rainfall or decreased /complete absence of it has resulted within the twenty-first century ( Houghton, 2009 ) . These alterations have been as a consequence of the nursery gases present in the ambiance. The gases have a blanketing consequence on the Earth surface by absorbing the thermic radiation being emitted by the Earth ââ¬Ës surface. The most of import of these nursery gases is H2O vapor but because its degrees are non being changed or increased by human activities it ââ¬Ës non considered as a job but the 2nd in most of import whose degrees is increasing quickly due to human activities is the C dioxide. It has the most heat pin downing consequence out of the other six chief nursery gases. If for illustration the effects of the CFC ââ¬ËS and alterations to the ozone was ignored the addition in the C dioxide has ( would hold ) contributed about 72 % of the enhanced nursery gas consequence boulder clay day of the month, methane 21 % and azotic oxide about 7 % . ( Houghton,2009 ) . In 2007, the atmospheric concentration of CO2 has ( had ) risen by 35 % ( from 280 to 370 parts per million ( ppm ) ) since the beginning of the industrial revolution. These gases and other Greenhouse gases ( GHG ) has ( have ) led to a 0.60C ( 1.10F ) addition in planetary norm of surface temperature since 1900 and if the current tendency of addition is non checked the planetary temperatures is expected to lift to approximately 1.4 to 5.8 by 2100 which invariable means more catastrophe in the universe ( Baumert, 2005 ) . These gases and other Greenhouse gases ( GHG ) led since 1900, to an addition of 0.60C ( 1.1oF ) in planetary norm of surface temperature. This tendency is expected to lift to between 1.4 and 5.8 if non checked, and constantly will take to more catastrophes in the universe ( Baumert 2005 ) . The effects of the C dioxide on the environment has since been recognized globally and pressing stairss are been taken to cut down its farther addition and general impact on the environment. The Kyoto Protocol is the first measure taken internationally to extenuate the effects of the altering clime. This understanding signed in 1997 sets an overall decrease of 5.2 % with regard to the 1990 degrees of emanations. Assorted marks were set for groups of states and states within each group based on their economic development and part to the planetary emanation. The United Kingdom for illustration has pledged to cut down its C emanations by 34 % in 2020, the European Union besides has a committedness to cut down emanations by 8 % in five old ages from 2008 to 2012 ( DECC, 2010 ) . The Kyoto protocol provides flexible mechanisms and regulations that would assist member parties to the pact to cut down emanations cost-effectively without impacting the economic development of all parties. The three flexible market based mechanisms for accomplishing these decreases are Emission Trading Scheme, Clean Development Mechanism and the Joint Implementation Mechanism. In the class of this write up we shall hold expression at the Personal Carbon Trading and Emission Trading strategy in the United Kingdom which is now under the European Union, its possible concern chances and jobs. What is Personal Carbon Trading?Personal Carbon Trading is a proposed cap and trade emanations merchandising strategy by the United Kingdom authorities in which grownup persons are provided with C allowances to cover their emanations. The strategy will let persons purchase up C credits to cover for emanations from the purchase of fuel for their private vehicles, energy use at place ( mainly electricity and gas ) and air power. It will non include emanations embedded in the goods being purchased by the person. The UK domestic sector histories for approximately 42 % of the entire CO2 emanations and this comprises of 30 % infinite warming, 4 % from illuming, 10 % from H2O warming, 29 % from personal travel,12 % from vacation travel and 2 % from other travel ( BERR,2007 ) . This analysis goes to demo that persons are responsible for about half the CO2 emanations in the United Kingdom and in order for the authorities to accomplish its marks of 80 % decrease in CO2 emanations in 2050, a strategy that will assist in cut downing personal C emanation decrease will be needed. There are assorted policies that have been provided in order aid cut down the C emanation from end-users of energy in the United Kingdom. These includes strategies like the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme, Smart Metering, rebates that could be received from revenue enhancement when put ining energy efficient systems, value added revenue enhancement decreases in some insularity stuffs aimed at supplying more efficient energy nest eggs in the edifices etc. In every bit much as these policies and inducements have been provided there is really no strategy that has been established to adequately bring on behavioural alterations to individual ââ¬Ës ingestion penchants on goods and services with C emanation In order for the authorities to run into the 2050 mark much accent has to be paid on cut downing the domestic sector marks alongside the concern and industry as about half the entire emanations are made by the domestic sectors. The Personal Carbon trading is taught to be a sort of strategy that could convey about the behavioural alterations on the graduated table required to efficaciously cut down the C emanations. The Environmental Change establishment made a proposition that the Personal Carbon Trading Scheme could take to the coveted trading strategy by binding together three basic mechanisms that could take to behavioural alteration in human existences. The figure 1 below shows the interplay between these three mechanisms to cut down energy demand. Figure 1: Beginning ECI, 2010. A strategy that can easy interplay with these three mechanisms will obvious ( ly ) offer the chances required for lower energy demand and accordingly, lower C emanation trading. Defra carried out a research in May 2008, to determine how the personal C trading will work out and they looked at the undermentioned facets: societal acceptableness, economic and proficient feasiblenesss, equity and distributional impact, and the strategy ââ¬Ës effectivity in the context of the bing policy landscape. It concluded that ââ¬Å" personal C trading has possible to prosecute persons in taking action to battle clime alteration, but is basically in front of its clip and expected costs for execution are high â⬠. Defra besides indicated involvement in the strategy stating that ââ¬Å" the Government remains interested in the construct of personal C trading and, although it will non be go oning its research programme at this phase, it will supervise the wealth of research concentrating on this country and may present personal C trading if the value of C nest eggs and cost deductions alteration â⬠( Defra 2008 ) .PROPOSED WAYS OF CARRYING OUT COST EFFECTIVE PERSONAL CARBONTrading.TechnologyThe United Kingdom has good established engineerings that could help the running of the personal C trading. Some of the engineerings used in running the assorted shop cards and the ways in which informations are stored and utilised each clip persons make purchases can besides be used in the execution of the personal C trading. A system that could include the personal C histories to some of the selected shop cards particularly those that can cover energy purchases, fuel purchases and the flight travels could be considered as a manner of accomplishing this trade. Besides wishing the sum of C used with the present strategy of the EUETS can assist persons merchandise easy when they have excesss with concerns and persons who needs more through a centralized information base. Social Acceptability: The extract of the personal C trading into our mundane twenty-four hours life can besides been seen in the manner the populace is presented with the cognition of the consequence of clime alteration and demand to set up a behavioural alteration. Most persons have been introduced with one shop card or the other and these cards can transport tonss of information on personal ingestions of some goods and services. If a card is made the C trading card and the information ââ¬Ës infused in some of the already existing cards or being issued and made a compulsory demand for personal purchases which includes energy, fuels and flights it could function as a voguish manner of cut downing C emanations. The CSE have besides found the success of shop trueness cards peculiarly encouraging: Estimates vary between 65 % and 85 % for the proportion of families which have at least one trueness card. However, the graduated table and rate of take up of trueness cards is likely less relevant to single C trading systems than the findings that: ( a ) people seem absolutely prepared to purchase things utilizing more than one card per dealing, and ; ( B ) these companies have established tremendous databases which firmly store personal informations and huge sums of dealing informations ( Roberts and Thumim, 2006 ) . These estimations goes to demo that the trueness shop cards has gained societal credence by the populace and if the personal C trading strategy is linked to it there will be no much hurdle in deriving single or public credence. The CSE besides calculated that the Tesco Club card database collects some 50 billion pieces of informations per twelvemonth. Based on the Tyndall Centres ââ¬Ës appraisals of dealing figures, the CSE calculated that a personal C trading database would hold to treat 15A billion pieces of informations per twelvemonth.Benefits of Personal Carbon Trading. One of the most of import of the countries of chance for the UK economic growing is the low C sector. The universe is doing a passage from a high to low C hereafter as assorted States attempts in the battle to undertake clime alteration leads to a alteration in economic system. The planetary markets for low C goods is deserving three million lbs and it is projected to turn to 4.3 trillion by 2015 ( Innovas, 2009 ) . If the personal C trading is made a policy there will be tonss of benefits for persons and the environment at big. Some of the benefits are highlighted as follows: There will be a behavioral alteration in the manner energy is being used and the less energy use there is the less carbon emanations to the environment. Implementing the personal C trading strategy will take to farther development in low C engineerings as more development in countries of less C use by persons will increase penchants for low C energy, flights etc. In the instance where the personal C trading is being incorporated into the whole economic system so there could be potencies of trading C allowances between persons and concerns. This will besides assist in farther decreases in C emanations as more net incomes persons have for practising effectual ways of cut downing their C pes print the more they will make to derive more. Execution of the personal C trading will be more favourable in footings of decrease in C emanations than C revenue enhancements. Because the C revenue enhancements on assorted goods and flight under the strategy can be viewed by persons as a mere addition in monetary value but the C trading can be seen as an avenue of honoring people actively cut downing their C use.Emission Trading SCHEME IN THE UNITED KINGDOMEmission Trading is a market mechanism designed for the decrease of pollution by the proviso of economic inducements for organic structures that have achieved quantifiable decrease of gaseous pollutants. In the United Kingdom, the emanations trading strategy ran as a voluntary trading strategy between 2002 and 2006 prior the mandatory European Union Emission Trading Scheme ( EU ETS ) . This nevertheless made it the first State in the universe to affect assorted companies and organic structures in the C trade. Though Denmark ran a nursery strategy but it merely included 8 electricity companies. Now the European Emission Trading Scheme is the largest emanation trading strategy in the universe holding the engagement of 27 European states. It aims at cut downing the green house gas emanations by 20 % below the 1990 degrees by 2020. The strategy places a cap on the sum of C dioxide emitted by concerns and creates a market and a monetary value for C allowances. It covers about 45 % of the emanations in the European Union and about 12,000 industrial installings ( Carbon Trust, 2010 ) These allowances can be obtained for free but power bring forthing companies will hold to pay for these allowances by 2013. Large emitters of CO2 are expected to supervise and describe their CO2 emanations and return the tantamount allowances of emanations to the authorities yearly. In a command to avoid any abnormalities that might happen during the class of a twelvemonth for illustration in utmost winter or summer periods, works operators subject to the EU ETS is given a period of several old ages at one time. These Numberss of old ages are referred to as a trading period. The strategy is divided in three stages. The first stage started in 2005 and expired in 2007.This was more or less a trial stage for the strategy execution. The 2nd stage is presently traveling on and it began in 2008 and will run till 2012. In this stage member provinces are expected to put a ââ¬Å" cap â⬠on emanations. These caps are converted to allowances known as EUA ( European Union Allowance ) . Each EUA is tantamount to one metric ton of CO2. Member provinces are expected to administer these allowances to assorted relevant installings involved in the strategy in their several states harmonizing to their National Allocation plans ( NAP ) . 10 % of the allowances will be auctioned alternatively of being free and higher per centums will be allotted in the United Kingdom and Germany. All installings will be expected to supervise and verify all C emanations and at the terminal of each twelvemonth must give up allowances to cover up for assorted emanations and can purchase emanations to cover up for extra emanations within the twelvemonth. The Joint Implementation mechanism and the Clean Development mechanism can be used within this stage to farther heighten the strategy. The Phase 3 will get down be 2013 and run boulder clay 2020. The execution will so be at the EU Level instead than single states. It is expected that there will be a diminution on the ââ¬Å" cap â⬠at least by 1.74 % which will interpret to less emanations of approximately 21 % less the Greenhouse gas emanations of 2005. The strategy will besides cover more organic structures and companies like the air power sectors and some metal bring forthing companies. For some it will include other nursery gases and CO2 emanations. The allowances will be greatly auctioned instead than given freely and the usage of the Clean Development Mechanism will be tightly restricted.Benefits of the Emission Trading SchemeThe Emission Trading Scheme offers a flexible manner of cut downing emanations. The procedures involved are non bureaucratic as one has the option of slaking emanations by securing energy efficiency tools and using other assorted procedures of cut downing emanations or purchasing up allowances in order to cover the emanations released unto the environment. The Emission Trading Scheme offers a transparent market and liquid market that has a decreased consequence of use from the authorities. There is a correlativity between energy monetary values and C monetary values. During the Phase 1 of the EU ETS ( 2005-2007 ) , the supply for C allowances was fixed and determined by the National Allocation Plan of each state of the European Union. The monetary value of C was traded for approximately 7 euros in the half of 2005, it rose and steadily peaked at 29 euros per metric ton in July and so fell to 20 euros per metric ton a month subsequently. The monetary value of C besides rose to 30 euros per metric ton in April 2006 and so fell to 10euros by the terminal of the month. Some of the energy companies was affected as this led to a decrease in net incomes they got by grandfathering the C allowances. For illustration the British Energy lost approximately 5 % of its stock Market value during the three yearss of this downward tendency of C monetary values. ( Gulli,2008 ) In kernel and efficaciously run EU ETS Scheme can take to downward tendency of electricity and gas monetary values as fewer emanations from the power Stationss will intend less allowances to be provided to cover emanations produced.DecisionThe Kyoto pact has provided three chief mechanisms to assist cut down the rate of C emanations to the environment. One of the mechanisms that have been demoing a possible decrease in C emanation is the emanation trading strategy. The European Union proposed a decrease in nursery gases by 21 % in 2020 below the 2005 degrees. In 2009, the CO2 emanations was reduced by 11 % ( Good,2010 ) . In every bit much as the planetary economic downswing played a important function it is believed that the strategy can actively cut down the C emanations from about 10,000 power installings soon under the strategy. Since the strategy works chiefly by high C dioxide emitters purchasing higher C credits for the sum they emit. For the United Kingdom which is under the European Union to efficaciously run into their 12.5 % C decrease mark by 2020 it is imperative that the sector that emits about half the emanations should be decently catered for in footings of making and strategy or policy that will help decrease in emanations. The domestic sector has been noted to account for approximately 40 % of the emanations in the United Kingdom and suggestions are that a strategy such as the personal C trading strategy would help a behavioural alteration in person ââ¬Ës high C emanations ensuing from energy ( electricity and gas ) ingestions, flight travels, and personal fuel ingestion can assist in cut downing and accomplishing the C emanations mark. There are benefits of the personal C trading strategy and the emanations trading strategy both to persons and the environment at big. With effectual running of this strategy power monetary values can be affected and besides the clime alteration effects can be curbed.

Alternative Strategies to Combating Poverty Essay
Alternative Strategies to Combating Poverty - Essay Example The minimum wage should be raised to over $11 per hour. The majority of poor Americans are workers that sustain their households on very small salaries. The senate should pass a minimum wage, which guarantees the dignity desired by all households. Every worker needs to make wages that enable them to have decent lives. A minimum wage that is more than $11 an hour can guarantee the dignity desired by all people. It is because no employer will be allowed to pay miserable wages to workers, regardless of their efficiency situations. There should be a minimum wage and overtime protections for the care workers. The income of most home care workers is way below the minimum wage, yet they are among the biggest occupations in the US today. The Obama administration had in December 2011 promised to liberate 2.5 million care workers from poverty, but this has remained a long-awaited promise. Projections show that in the next decade, the demand for care workers will rise by 1.3 million. A new set of regulations should be devised and implemented by the government to provide a federal minimum wage and overtime protections for most home care aides. The government should invest more in the subsidized and transitional jobs. Many jobless people have little education and skills to cope with the stiff job market. Despite the recovery of the economy in America, about two in every five jobless people have been unemployed for at least six months. About 6.7 million young people are out of school and are not of working.

On Morphology of Thermoplastic Polyester Elastomer (TPE-E) Research Paper
On Morphology of Thermoplastic Polyester Elastomer (TPE-E) - Research Paper Example The amazing versatility and utility of TPE-Es is because of their specialized structures. TPE-Es have a biphasic structure with one phase remaining soft at room temperature and the other remaining hard at room temperature (Holden 2010). The soft segments are amorphous while the hard segments are structured/crystalline, and both the segments are immiscible (Jelinski, Schilling and Bovey 1981; Sarwade & Singh 2003). The hard segment becomes fluidic when heated and imparts a thermoplastic nature to the polymer, while the soft segment imparts an elastomeric nature (Sarwade & Singh 2003; Holden 2010). The hard segments form noncovalent networks that are thermally reversible, relying on intramolecular interactions for their stability (Jelinski, Schilling and Bovey 1981). A simple TPE-E copolymer structure comprises of alternating A-B-A blocks, where A is the hard phase, and B is the soft phase (Holden 2010). The hard and soft phases are randomly joined head-to-tail, yielding the copolymers (Witsiepe 1973). The general structure of TPE-E copolymers is as follows: SOFT HARD In case of TPE-Es, the soft phase comprises of polyethers while the hard phase comprises of polyesters. By varying the relative amounts of each of these two phases, the properties of the copolymer can be modulated (Witsiepe 1973). Electron microscopic studies by Cella have shown that phase separation occurs in these polyether-polyether co-polymers below their melting points (cited in Witsiepe 1973). The morphology of TPE-Es comprises of the soft segment (polyether), which is the continuous amorphous phase along with interspersed segments of polyesters that have not been crystallized because of their small size, high melt viscosity or due to chain entanglement (Witsiepe 1973). While some of the polyesters remain as short segments in the soft continuous phase, the remaining polyesters exist as closely connected fibrillar crystalline lamellae. This crystalline network of the hard phase along with the s oft amorphous continuous phase forms an elastic network. In simple terms, as described by Witsiepe (1973), ââ¬Å"a more or less continuous crystalline network is superimposed on a continuous amorphous networkâ⬠(p. 50). The chemical structure of hard and soft phases of a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) affects its mechanical properties. Therefore, by experimenting with different compounds, TPEs with novel properties can be developed for industrial purposes. Examples of industrially prominent TPE-Es include Hytrel, Ecdel, RTP, Pibiflex, Keyflex and Riflex (Fakirov 2005). Hytrel engineering thermoplastic elastomer is a TPE-Es manufactured by E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. (Jelinski, Schilling and Bovey 1981; Fakirov 2005). This elastomer is available in varying compositions of m teramethyline terephthalate, which is the hard segment, and n poly (tetramethyleneoxy) terephthalate, which is the soft segment (Jelinski, Schilling and Bovey 1981). The chemical structure of Hytrel is s hown below: Like all TPE-Es, Hytrel has the flexibility and elasticity of rubbers and the strength and rigidity of plastics, is as easily processable as thermoplastics and comes in both standard and high-performance grades with a Shore D hardness ranging from 30 to 82 (Fakirov 2005). C13 NMR studies by Jelinski, Schilling and Bovey (1981) have shown that the widths of the aliphatic carbon chain of the soft segment of Hytrel are a linear function of the average length of the hard

Respiratory therapy - Essay Example à The end result would be deteriorating health conditions especially brain damage and in worst case scenarios, death of the patient. Another breach of standards of care was failure of the respiratory therapist to record the portable ventilators settings and alarm parameters before leaving the neurological intensive care unit. The nurse also played a role in the breach by failure to verify the same considering it is the duty of the stated nurse to do so. The registered nurse also failed to make any entry in his medical record regarding both the patientââ¬â¢s vital signs and the alarm parameters. This is a clear breach of the standards of care that state the records should be updated before the transfer of such patients. The failure of both the registered nurse and the respiratory therapist to keep the necessary records implied that in the event of further deterioration by the patient, the alarm system was unable to go off and notify the respective practitioners on the situation. Failure of the nurse to record the patientââ¬â¢s vital signs ensured that consequent monitoring could not be done. The other breach of standards of care was failure of the nurse to inform the other healthcare providers that she had administered a paralytic drug to the patient. Lastly, both the respiratory therapist and the registered nurse did not focus on the cardiac monitor for fluctuations as is required by the standards. Instead, the nurse was listening for alarms who parameters were never set in the first place. No alarm sounded despite the failing conditions of the plaintiff.

Management Principles of Pursuit of Happiness Term Paper
Management Principles of Pursuit of Happiness - Term Paper Example In any business, money is the language people speak, even in the business of families. When money is not smooth-flowing, members of a company or family could break apart, leaving broken relationships. This is a common mistake made by the untrained or novice businessman, foreseeing a great future in a business without making careful studies of the feasibility of an enterprise before investing in it. In the case of Gardner, he bought all the machines he could and though he worked hard to sell them compounded with good communication skills, he still lost his wife. However, serendipities could happen when perseverance is present as seen in the life of Gardner when his selling of the machines led him to places which brought him to the success in stockbrokerage. Gardner proved to have keen eyes for success when he looked enviously at a stockbrokerââ¬â¢s car and asked him what he did and how he did it, showing qualities that are essential to successful management. He was not only observa nt but he had a way of expressing himself without reservations, he had good communication skills. Honesty was one he could have never thought would be the very key for his having a chance in his dream job as it is shown in his confession to the interviewers that he tried to make up a great story why he went to the interview dressed like a garbage man. Although choosing appropriate clothes is as important as the product in every business, Gardner was able to persuade his interviewers that he could do the job by selling himself first, his abilities and capabilities. Although he was a leader of a basic unit of society, his family; he seemed to be unsuccessful managing it, failing to keep his wife to work with him in their pursuit of the happiness they both longed for. Despite the trials they have been through, he stood to the discipline of never hitting a woman or leaving his son, borne of a desperate need for the father he never knew. This became his personal motivation, to stay with his son and not give him the chance to have a piece of the abuse he experienced in the hands of his stepfather when he was a child, and to work hard to give his son the care he needed as his wife left them for New York. Birthed from such a need, the high-paying job of a stockbroker became to him a challenge and a motivation as he had the opportunity to grab the job, with it not needing a college diploma to qualify as an applicant. Crossing the bridge to take the training as a stockbroker became painfully difficult when he learned that the six-month long training is without pay. Faced with the dilemma of raising his son alone, he had to stand firm, making sacrifices to be able to accomplish every task that was set before him. This is where Gardnerââ¬â¢s planning and strategic management skills became evident when he had to work while training and at the same time attending to his parental responsibilities. He managed his time pretty well, studying in the train and working while ta king his leisure time with his son, juggling his various responsibilities and making wise use not only of his time but also of all resources available to him. Moreover, when he was in the training scene, Mr. Witter became one of his motivations, praising him for his wit and hard work, driving him all the more to be productive. He was a natural strategic planner, valuing every tick of the clock so that he even estimated an eight minute productive time he had, from refraining to drink, and hanging in between calls. He was a team-player,

Suggestions of Crisis Communication for the Chinese Government Literature review
Suggestions of Crisis Communication for the Chinese Government - Literature review Example In short, a threat, surprise, unpredictability, short duration of response and inevitability define crises. Among all crises, damages, reputation and image are of key concern to any leader and organization during the crisis and post crisis. Arnold (2008) argues that reputational damage is an emergent danger during any crisis. Chen (2008) cites image as a central concept to the disciplines of human relations, fundamental to organizations (such as, government bodies, corporations, nonprofit groups and government institutions) as well as individuals. When a crisis erupts, the organizationââ¬â¢s image is damaged and its capacity to manage the crisis qualities are put to test (Becker 2011). Coombs (2012) argues that crisis management is aimed at reducing or warding off financial and reputational risks by espousing the development of policies to help in the handling communication crises. A bank for crisis management policies seeks to help reduce potential negative outcomes ascribed to emergent situations and, thereby, protect institutions, stake holders and the industry from damage, According to Coombs (2012), an active crisis management platform originates from a universal ââ¬Å"range of crisis communication approachesâ⬠comprising of a variety of activities from ââ¬Å"denial to accommodationâ⬠. Defensive approaches assert that no disaster exists, or try to evade accountabilities for the crisis, through comprise, denial, excuses, justifications and attacks targeted at the accuser.

Literature - Essay Example The Story of an hour begins with a tone of anxiety when the family members express concern how to break the news to Mrs. Mallard, the main character. The reader is immediately transported into a state of anxiety and fear as he too is keen to know what the news to be broken to Mrs. Mallard is. When her sister breaks the news of the fatal accident that Mr. Mallard had met with, Mrs. Mallard bursts into tears. This is moment of ââ¬Ërecognitionââ¬â¢ as described by Aristotle, which did have the emotional effect both on the main character and the reader alike. Her reaction was different from other women of her times, which makes the moment more effective. The description of her state at learning the news creates mixed reactions in the reader. She sits motionless on the chair and then stares with a vacant look. The reader also wonders what is approaching her as she becomes powerless and whispers ââ¬Ëfree, free, freeââ¬â¢. This moment is significant as it is filled with terror a nd emptiness and is successful in evoking the emotions in the reader. As the news sinks in, Mrs. Mallard seems to be elated at the thought that henceforth she would be free to do what she wants in life when the author describes, ââ¬Ëshe was drinking in a very elixir of life through that open windowââ¬â¢. This is the moment of reversal because is something different from what the reader would expect from a woman who has just lost her husband. The moment of reversal comes when Mr. Mallard walks in totally unaware of what had taken place. This description too leaves the reader shocked as this was least expected. The first unexpected event is the walking in of Mr. Mallard, which itself is stunning. The second event is the moment of both recognition and reversal at the same time as Mrs. Mallard collapses on seeing her husband. The doctors declare that she died of a joy that kills. The reader wonders

Importance of Slavery Essay Example for Free
Importance of Slavery Essay Economic, geographic, and social factors all contributed to the rise of importance for slaves in the southern colonies as their position in American society changed from 1607 and 1775. Slaves not only influenced Jamestown in 1607, but they influenced America, all the way into the American Revolution in 1775. Slavery ultimately flourished and aided economic triumph in the southern colonies. With the hopes of making it big in the new colonies, indentured servants came through the headright system, usually people who lacked funds of any sort hoping to make money. During this time, English practiced mercantilism and since they lacked the proper agriculture to grow tobacco. John Rolfe made it a cash crop in the new colonies and they were able to sell it quite easily to their mother country, England. This lasted until about the time of Baconââ¬â¢s Rebellion where indentured servants were mad due to them thinking they would get land after their 20 years of work. But with this the south turned to slavery as a viable option. Now they could tell by just the color of their skin what class they were in. The triangular trade made this even better. They got more and made slaves work on their large plantations. Since slaves were not citizens they had no rights. The South flourished with their labor. They had huge profits. America did not just depend on tobacco they also had rice and indigo that helped the economy an immense amount. Social factors in the south also encouraged growth. The American slave code is based off the barbatos slave code. Aristocrats who were at the top of the pyramid in social class had many slaves. The blacks were at the bottom and they had no rights. The slave owners often had there slaves reproduce to make them more slaves. The more slaves you had the more money, and the higher nobility you had. Racism was a huge social factor of slavery. The whites thought they were superior to the blacks and they showed it. with the social presser to hate blacks slavery would not have been so successful economically. The geography of the southern colonies was not suited to standard farming as that of the northern colonies. The soil of the land was not suited to the growing of standard crops like wheat and corn. Also, the hot weather of the south did not allow for easy farming, and its wet and temperate sub-tropical climates was best suited for the growing of tobacco, rice, and indigo. Along with this, the extensive river system which divided the southern colonies into tiny interconnected pieces provided the best transportation for mass goods and for wet soil. The many river parts of the south made it easy to transfer goods grown on plantations, and to facilitate the purchase of slaves.

The Not So Wonderful World of Eurodisney
The Not So Wonderful World of Eurodisney Euro Disney and other Disney are subsidiaries to Walt Disney Company. This is a case study based on Euro Disney to critically analyse and answer question of the Not So Wonderful World of EuroDisney- Things are Better Now at Paris Disneyland. EuroDisney first year of operation was faced with several factors in which hindered their financial growth and success in the first year of operation. The case study will analyse and answer several questions relating to the Not so Wonderful world of EuroDisney. The questions are broken down in to five which are: 1) Why was Euro Disney performing poorly during its first year of operation? Recommend and propose strategies and suggestions to improve the situation? 2) To what degree do you consider that these factors were a) foreseeable and b) controllable by either Euro Disney or the parent company Disney? Evaluate the cross-cultural marketing skills of Disney! 3) Do you think the new theme park would have encountered the same problems if a location in Spain had been selected? 4) If you were the business development manager, what would be the major consideration you would go through before selecting a location for the next Disneyworld? 5) From your discussion select a location you think will be the next Disneyland site. By the end of the analysis, a clear understanding it to be derive on what lead to the not so wonderful world of EuroDisney, and shading light on mistakes made by the parent company. CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Euro Disney and other Disney company in various countries making it a network of international family entertainment network in all house hold around the world with four business diversification which are media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment and consumer products. Disneyland, Disney world and all places Disney have been known as the happiest place on earth, the goal of Walt Disney is opening Disneyland was not to just be a theme park, but to be a theme park that the entire family could enjoy. Although the Walt Disney Company was founded in 1938, it was not until 1952 that the theme park, Disneyland, was opened to the public. When Walt Disney opened an amusement park in the middle of Southern California orange groves in 1955, he changed the way that Americans, and the world, viewed such entertainment. Once the domain of carnival hucksters, amusement parks underwent a significant makeover at the hands of the head of the Disney Studios Walter Elias Disney is a pioneer, innovator and possessor of one of the most fertile imaginations in the world. He was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon and philanthropist. Disney is famous for his influence in the field of entertainment during the twentieth century. As the co-founder (with his brother Roy O. Disney) of Walt Disney Productions, Disney became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation he co-founded, now known as The Walt Disney Company, today has annual revenues of approximately U.S. $35 billion. Disney is particularly noted for being a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created a number of the worlds most famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, a character for which Disney himself was the original voice. He received fifty-nine Academy Award nominations and won twenty-six Oscars, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual. He also won seven Emmy Awards. He is the namesake for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the United States, Japan, France, and China. In April 1992, The Walt Disney Company and Affiliated Companies opened a new park for European visitors. It was located by the river Marne some 20 miles east of Paris and was designed to be the biggest and most lavish theme park that Walt Disney Company had built as compared to other sister companies (Cateora, Graham, p.615). Nevertheless, the development of big theme park in Paris instead arise Euro Disneys start up problems because the management has done some mistakes on project plan. They could not arrange a proper plan. Since the management not able to purposely consider certain outcomes, there was a something wrong in planning Euro Disney. The Disney management also did not have ample assumption about the European market as well as they did for their parent mark. CHAPTER 2 2.0 CASE STUDY The not-So-Wonderful World of Euro Disney Things Are Better Now at Paris Disneyland. 2.1 The questions of case study to be answered: Question 1 Why was Euro Disney performing poorly during its first year of operation? Recommend and propose strategies and suggestions to improve the situation? Question 2 To what degree do you consider that these factors were a) foreseeable and b) controllable by either Euro Disney or the parent company Disney? Question 3 Evaluate the cross-cultural marketing skills of Disney! Question 4 Do you think the new theme park would have encountered the same problems if a location in Spain had been selected? Discuss! Question 5 If you were the business development manager, what would be the major consideration you would go through before selecting a location for the next Disneyworld? From your discussion select a location you think will be the next Disneyland site. CHAPTER 3 3.0 ANSWERS TO CASE STUDY 3.1 Question 1 Factors that contributed to Euro Disneys poor performance during its first year of operation. Euro Disneys factors of poor performance marketing mistakes were present throughout the whole inception of Euro Disney. Euro Disney were faced with several affecting factors which contributed to the failure or poor performance of the company, the factors came along with location, price, and lack of research in exchange rate, as well as the style of the theme park all played roles in the lack of success experienced by Euro Disney. The factors that played into the unsuccessful first year could have been foreseen and somewhat easily by Euro Disney or the parent company, the same goes for their being able to control them. Hostility among the French had risen even as the plans were being set as it was stated earlier, that they did not want American imperialism invading their country and culture. Cateora Graham, p.614 reports, Paris theatre director Mnouchhkin descried Euro Disney as a cultural Chernobyl. In fall 1989, during a visit to Paris, French columnist pelted Michael Eisner with e ggs. The joke going around at the time was, for Euro Disney to adapt properly to France, all seven of snow whites dwarfs should be named Grumpy Location Many factors contributed to Euro Disney poor performance during the first year of operation and many of these factors could have been alleviated if the proper factors would have been looked at previously. The first problem was the demographics and subsidies, and because the French government made Disney an offer it could not refuse, they located Euro Disney 20miles outside of Paris, a location that was thought to be very convenient. It played a negative role in the success in the success for Disney. How many people go to Paris to get glimpses of American theme parks? Most of the tourist going to Paris would spend time travelling the city and its wonders. About 17 million lives less than two hour drive from Paris and another 310 million can fly there at the same tie or less. The French government offered the company more than $1billion in various incentives; all in the expectation that project would create 30,000 French jobs. The land came at rock bottom prices, cheap loans were made available, and a dedicated high speed TGV and suburban railway link was also offered by the French. France gave Disney an offer they could not refuse, overlooking the over value franc, bad weather, French people not being known for their hospitality and occasional anti-American demonstration by angry farmers because French agricultural subsidies had been cut, Paris was still chosen to be home of Euro Disney. The climate in Paris was also unsuitable and off-season attendance was way below expectation. Many landmarks events were competition to Euro Disneys opening year, such event was the one held in Spain. Spain held the world fair in Seville and Barcelona was home to the 1992 Olympics which took tourists to area other than Paris. All in all, 1992 was not looking good for Euro Disney in terms of success. Foreign uncontrollable and Exchange rate. In Paris in regards to economic forces, legal forces, competition, and culture can be held accountable for Euro Disney misfortune. In opening in the summer of 1992, Europe was entering into recession and this caused income from catering, merchandise, including souvenirs and foods, hotels to be way below that was expected. High interest rates also caused many currencies to devaluate against Franc leading to more financial difficulties for Euro Disney. In negotiation with France, lawyers were used excessively. The rigid legal approach was offensive to the French, who, like most Europeans consider depending on lawyers to reach a conclusion to be last resort. Despite the foreign market uncontrollable hindering the park from the beginning, when Euro Disney opened in the summer of 1992 many marketing and operational errors factored into the parks unsuccessful opening. Advertisement made by Euro Disney Another controllable factor was the advert made by Euro Disney, which factored the poor the poor performing by the Euro Disney in Paris. Euro Disney advertising had emphasised Disney image as an alluring bit of American rather than an explaining to potential customers what they can actually do for the park. France (2004) reports, every surface that could possibly have an advert placed on it clothing, buses, taxis, myriad walls and billboards, even the snow you sky on now hawks something. According to Wikipedia encyclopaedia, Ãâà ´Advertising is the promotion of goods and services, companies and ideas, usually performed by an identified sponsor. Company are bombarding us with thousand of advert with only one intention, to persuade us to buy their product. Euro Disneys image marketing did not explain to Europeans that the theme park was or what attractions it had to offer the European consumer. The company advertising focused on the size of the park and the glamour behind it that t his poor marketing strategy hurt over all business. No one in France cared that Euro Disney had cost over $4 billion and that its 4,800 acres include five separate recreation areas, six hotels with room for 5,200 people in all, an entertainment centre, a 27 hole golf course and a wooded campground. The marketing strategy in America was used in France and it backfired when the French visitors stayed away from the park. Yes advertising bombards us everywhere, but it is not without control and regulation by the government, businesses, and citizens. This opens one of the major issues in advertising, the question of law and ethics. The sensitivity perceived by the French in relation to the advert was that, it did not tell them what the citizens will benefit from the EuroDisney, and also the French were not happy with how the Americans use their own advertising style. Poor Management operation The management of Euro Disney had difficulties due to cultural and lack of understanding of the French culture. Operational errors that easily could have been avoided accounted for more troubles than were expected in the Euro Disney. In regards to employees, alcohol, admission and hotel prices, and breakfast in the hotel, staffing problems, and regulations regarding pets, many problems cause the Euro Disney misfortune in the first year. The employees dressed code enforced on employees prohibited facial hair and limited the use of makeup and jewellery. The lack of understanding by the parent country in regards to the dress culture of the French affected customer patronage. The French did not think dress standards like that existed outside the west military academy. Also the ban on alcohol caused astonishment in a country where glass of wine is normally given for launch and it is necessary as a fork for eating. However banning the alcohol in this theme park could have ever been a consi deration is unbelievable and since it was a major issue, this policy of not serving alcohol in the park was also a hindering factor at Euro Disney. Another factor that leads to poor operation was the price system. Prices involve around Euro Disney were also the cause of it not performing well and not generating profit. consultant who studied the park say that its high admission price 30 percent more that Disney Orlando makes visitors keen to take as many rides as possible, so they spend less time shopping for Mickey Mouse ears and such. Prices at the Disney hotel were high compared to other hotels in Paris, the hotels in Paris ranges from $180 to $380 in the Paris metropolis. Staffing problem One of the major factors in the customer relationship in the international marketing, even at the domestic market is the customer- staff relationship. At Euro Disney, there were staffing approach problems too. The company had tried using the same team work model it did use either in America or Japan, which did not work in France. Within the first nine weeks of Euro Disneys operation, roughly 1,000 employees, 10 percent of the employee left. People were leaving because they felt they were not being understood and they were not being treated in an appropriate manner that was satisfactory to them. The company actually taught that Monday would be a les busy day, while Friday a hectic busy time, but the reverse was the case, Monday turned out to be very busy at the Euro Disney. Unforeseen issues Factors that really could not be seen by managers included the approach to European recession, the Golf war in 1991, and increased interest rates. External factors that affected business were also the devaluation of the Franc currency in the international market, which lead to competitors to draw the attention of customers to the various sites. These competitors were the worlds fare in Seville and the 199 Olympics, which was held in Barcelona. (Cateora, Graham, p.615) Ethnocentrism The managers of Disney and Euro Disney used their way of doing business, their cultural belief and ethics, and what they know and are used to in order to try and get another country to do the same. Cateora Graham describes in more detail, A brainstorming, kick the door down attitude seemed to reign amongst the U.S. decision makers. The authors referred to one former managers comment, We were arrogant, it was like, we were building the Taj Mahal and people will come on our terms. Ethnocentrism is usually referred to as tunnel vision. This view says that one certain ethnic group beliefs about morals is the right one and better than any group. The French saw the American managers as bullies, arrogant, and workaholics. A search for the topic, Business culture Vs French (n.d) refers to Laura Hampton, French ministry of Education as she explains the views that the French have about American business and culture: The French have a love or hate relationship with the U.S. We are deeply admired for many things (entertainment industry, our political system, our optimism as a people) but they are also very critical of the role the U.S has played in globalisation which they see threatening their own identity, culture, and language (Regarding management practices) the French are less direct about theory expectation and you have to pay closer attention to the subtle cues given to you., Disregarding the French culture of being the worlds biggest consumers of wine, the management of Disney still hung on their we know best conviction. Male employees had to keep well groomed as the American managers wanted in this way. Their insensitivity to the French culture led to a very bad start even though they did relent in some areas such as allowing females employees to wear brightly coloured nails polish and allowing kennels for the quest pets. The French would never dream of leaving their pets when going on vacation. (Cateora Graham, p 615) CONCLUSION: the major factor that contributed to their poor performance, during their first year of operation can be narrowed down to marketing surveysm, which lead to ethnocentrism and self reference criterion. 3.1.2 RECOMMENDATION, PROPOSE STRATEGY AND SUGGESTION TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION AT EURO DISNEY. There are several means in which the controllable factors could be avoided in other to present Euro Disney the success it needed at the first year of business. This means are suggest and proposed as follows: The deliverance of advertising to the customers, not on the physical composition of just the area alone, but on the resources and service that a customer will get from patronising the resort. Advertising should be careful controlled. Society needs to make sure that people are not taken in by misleading advertisement. There is a set of principles that all advertisers must follow (Roman Mss, 2003, p.200): Tell the truth, show the truth- the product should look exactly the same way as the consumers will purchase it Make the general impression truthful- Advertising is judged not by what it says, but what consumers thinks it says. (p.201) Ban weasels and dangling companions- All sentences must be clear. Substantiate product claims- must provide evidenced that the claim is true. Back testimonials with research. It is crucial that cross cultural communication, cooperative decision-making and collaborative problem solving be implemented in multinational corporation management like Disney. It is important that the management of a multinational corporation work together to overcome boundaries and differences and to be able to communicate, and collaborate in order to effectively work together, communicate, make decision, and solve problems as a single entity as globalisation does simple that. This brings the world together. The EuroDisney could use the help of the Disney in Turkey in other to be able to handle the cultural difference in French. By understanding the French culture, EuroDisney will be able to bring polices that will be accepted by the French customers. The French cherish their culture that it is important for EuroDisney to able to adapt the culture and avoid cultural self criterion, rather try to understand the culture of the French. Make use of their number one asset which is human resource in order to apply the best approaches and method and focus on both macro and micro economics of the global business. The management from the head quarters branch(in this case, management from the United State) cannot do this alone but will achieve success if he learns from those in the various parts of the world and learns from those who are experts in the various locations and cultures in which they live and work. They will next, approaches communication, sales, customers services, find solutions, developing innovative tactics, and so on. The best way in managing a diverse sales team is to incorporate the sales management from each area and empowering them and learning from them, this system will help the Euro Disney to overcome the cultural differences and policies that are not suitable for the French workers. Generally as management, it is important to have a general knowledge of domestic activities and policies, and to understand the various cultures and operations of the sales force outside of the United States. This can only be accomplish by using human resource from which are familiar with the culture of French, company, and cultures, how business is handled in different parts of the world, varying company policies and operations (although the company is an entity, policies and routines vary slightly, if not extremely, in order to accommodate the differences), language and cultural differences, various sales methods, training, customer service, account management, follow up procedures, key account management, and so on. Can only be handled by working with the various sales teams and using their expertise. CONCLUSION: The above mentioned proposed recommendation will tackle the poor performance at Euro Disney. The first recommendation should be the market research and survey, which will tackle the staffing problem, cultural issues and drafting and delivering of effective promotion, 3.2 Question 2 3.2.1 The factors that could have been foreseeable and controlled by Euro Disney or the parent company. Taking a look at the above mentioned factors that lead to the poor performance of Euro Disney in their first year of operation, some of the factors were possibly foreseeable, while some were not foreseeable and uncontrollable. A company reputation and size of Disney is allowed no room for mistakes. The stakes involved are billions of dollars. Complementary businesses like that of the hotel industry are reliant upon the success on the success of this team park in Paris. Generous funds received from the government and private institutions would have to be made well of. Disney should be able to foreseen the unforeseen. When Euro Disney was established the consideration taking into account is the geographical area and culture as well. However Disney established the Euro Disney based on the nature or American thinking, they expected the Europeans to act as Americans and thrive over newly designed theme park. They forgot that they were producing a massive theme park bigger than any other theme park in Europe for the American mentality. They could have calculated the exchange rate, and did not calculate the European culture. They could have foreseen the problems mentioned in the above poor performance factors listed. Factors such as those mentioned above are not categorized as the unforeseen; rather they are being classified as the expected factors, which Euro Disney or the parent company Disney should have detected. Economics, politics, culture complemented and associated with in depth analysis of the 4Ps follow the basic principles of marketing. Disney should have foreseen the changing economic scene in France with the forthcoming European recession in 1991. The relationship with the French government should have been handled with greater care and delicacy, because of the size of the investment involved and ultimately, the number of jobs dependant on the success of the Euro Disney. Looking at culture, the parent company can force itself on another people, looking at the cultural profile of the French, which in this case was the European continent. Disney promoted its product, the theme park similar to that of Tokyo Disneyland in Japan believing Europeans wanted their piece of Americana. In inte rnational marketing, the needs and wants of the consumer are being indentified, the package presented by Disney to their customer meet neither their needs nor wants. Disney true success lies in adapting to the surrounding culture of the French and Europe as a whole, being marketing oriented in finding success in customer satisfaction. Disney failed in both aspects. Culture is wide and change occurs when resistance slowly yields to acceptance, so the basis of resistance becomes unimportant or forgotten, which means that on the part of the European community, we are certain to see compromise, but over a period of time. Disney too has to reconcile with the environment it has settled in. we read in the case that Disney does ultimately mend it ways. Making room for continuous change is the best way to go about its business. CONCLUSION: most of the factors that lead to the poor performance of EuroDisney in their first year of operation were foreseeable which are the staffing problem, advert problem, and cultural differences and so on, where some factors were not, such as the economic recession at that time in Europe. 3.3 Question 3 The cross-cultural marketing skills of Disney The problem was that in the beginning, cross cultural marketing skills were not used and employed. Taking for example, Disney executives were told that French did not take breakfast in the morning, which lead to downsize but surprisingly, the French do eat breakfast. Cross cultural marketing would have let the managers know that the Europeans were more energetic and covered more of the Euro Disney theme park and rides than those in the western hemisphere. Therefore, instead of the normally three days stay at the Disney American theme park, the stays were normally shortened to two days stay. The European vacation customs were not being examined so the theme park did not see profits and success as hoped. Americans take short breaks but they take the more often. However, Europeans take one month for holiday. The American managers thought that the Europeans would change their one month tradition and adopt the Americans shorter yet more frequent time off but did not happen. The French schedule remains the same and they would close the office and factory during the entire month of August, which was contrary to what the American do. These factors should have been considered. Cross cultural marketing would have been extremely useful but the parent compan y executives were being quite ethnocentric and it cost a great price. (ibid, p.615) needed to say, their cultural marketing skills were unsatisfactory, in fact, nonexistent. Had they had any skills of this sort, the beginning would have been a success and not such a failure at the start. Therefore, we can say that the skills of Euro Disney cross cultural marketing skill was poor, they did not have skills of cross cultural marketing skills which is the main key in dealings in international trade like Euro Disney. They put an American theme park in the middle of Europe with American mentality, American food, and this did not heed to the cultural values of the Europeans. However, the new CEO in 1993, the park understood their problem and made the changes. They then started their new marketing plan, which included skills of cross cultural values, understanding. They started to include French and European favourites like Zoro and Mary Poppins. They advertising campaign include famous European characters with the magic kingdom. Within a year, they took off deals boosted. CONCLUSION: after the recognition of the problem facing Euro Disney which was the cross cultural marketing skill, which was bad. After some time park understood the pending problem and provided a solution, which was the use of French in their advertising campaign and so on. 3.4 Question 4 3.4.1 New theme park in Spain Spain is a country that accept and receive foreign cultures compared to France, the southerners receive foreign culture with greater warmth compared to the central and east Europeans, in which if Euro Disney would have launched in Spain, Disney would have met less criticism. But we should bear in mind that, Euro Disney is actually built to serve the entire Europe as a whole not just Spain. Therefore, criticism will likely come from other part of Europe, even if Spain receives Americans with warmth. Cultural profile is formed as the bases of international marketing relationship, how a product is being marketed in the international market, in a foreign country is based on the cultural variable present in the country. In other for Disney success in marketing the theme park internationally, it will force them never over emphasise the importance of understanding the culture of a foreign culture. A theme park in any part in Europe generally, Spain not excluded will face a varying percentage of regal restraints, political risk, culture conflict, and economic disruption as well. Therefore, if Disney places a theme park in Spain, it is believed that the cultural difference will lay a huge role in its success, as suggested earlier. Disney would have to adapt to the customers culture and the culture of Spain generally, and incorporate them into the development, implementation, and operation of a new theme park. The workaholic habits of the Americans is opposite of not just Spains focus of life and family first, but generally Europe as a continent. In the United States, people focus more on themselves and individuality is the focus not group (Hofstede cultural dimension). CONCLUSION: international marketing is the function associated with culture, what one is able to do in marketing to a particular foreign product is shaped by the cultural variables of the country. A theme park is Spain as in another part of Europe would face a varying proportion of, legal restraints, political risk, culture conflict, and economic disruption. 3.5 Question 5 3.5.1 The major considerations for the next Disneyworld The consideration for the next Disneyworld should be in Dubai. Dubai should be considers as the next Disneyworld location priority. Dubai (UAE) is the major commercial business hub of the Arab world. Business horizons expand from the west coast of the United States to the eastern Philippine archipelago. Business communities around Europe have created a stronghold here as a gateway to most of Northern Africa, the Middle East and to a limited extent the Asian Subcontinent. Dubai seems to be a good strategic location for the Next Disney world to be established. Dubai is seen as the portal not only to the minority communities from Europe, Asia and Americas but specifically to the Muslim world of over one billion. Then underlying opportunities are immense. The parent company Disney is already a recognise figure in households of the respective location UAE. Concepts of Resources and Scarcity
Concepts of Resources and Scarcity Resources and scarcity, resources means to provide or equipment that is needed. Scarcity means limited or short supply. The definition by Lionel Robbins says that our resources are limited but humans need is unlimited. As a human we never get enough of things. For example, now i own a proton car but later, will wish to have other bigger car. As we all know humans have unlimited desire. And also its very hard to satisfy their wants. Economics is defined as a study of resources to satisfy humans unlimited wants. Economics plays an important role in our daily life. For example, if a price of a product increases it will affect the economics of the country and also the people there. It is important to have or maintain a stable economics in the country. Economics plays an important role in every individual. Besides this, resources are important elements. There are few important elements which are known as the factors of production which are capital, land, labor and entrepreneur. Each element plays an important role in the country economics and also to satisfy humans unlimited needs and wants. The factors of production are divided to 3 main parts which is Humans Resources, Natural Resources and also Manufactured Resources. Firstly, about Human resources, human resources is known as labor. Labor is known as employees who work to made or produce. It is important to know about the abilities of the labor or workers. We should understand their level of abilities and use their skills wisely. Labor help to improve the standard of the country and the satisfy of humans unlimited needs and wants. For example, there will be engineers with a lot of potential, so the employer should understand and use the employee skill wisely to improve and also maintain the production of the country and the economics too. Secondly, i will discuss about land. Land is also an important element in the resources, without land there is nothing. Land is a place where we can get timber, minerals and also natural resources to continue living. By having land we can get all the natural resources. It also knows that in our country Malaysia we are rich in natural resoures, such as minerals and timber. Furthermore capital is also one of the factors of production. Capital is known as a good or services. Example of capital is machines, tools and etc. It is important to have this machines and tools to further with production. Capital is to have a better produced of goods or services. And entrepreneur an entrepreneur is an organize an also an entrepreneur is a person who introduces to new product, and techniques and also entrepreneur must be a person who willing to take risk. These are the four main and important factors, but to fulfill humans needs and wants this is not enough cause humans always have unlimited wants and needs to be fulfill their needs. Moreover by the help of the three questions, it will be much easier to solve this problem. The questions are how to produce, to whom to produces and what to produce. By following this question human can make a choice of what they want. For example, humans have to identify the wants and make a choice. Making a choice may be hard but humans have to make a choice, based on how much they have. How much can their afford. Choice is an important decision that humans have to make. Choice in the food, goods and etc. By making a choice humans tend to satisfy their needs and wants. Capital is define as a good that be used in a business to generate the income of the business. Capital is an important element in a business. Capital is also known as money or property that used in a business. Capital is a money that humans use to develop their business. Without capital there will be no way to develop or invest the business. Capital used to produce either goods or services. For example Capital refers to machines or tools in an company. Without the machines or tools cannot produce or create. For examples cars, there are machines and tools that had been created to make cars, without the machines the car cannot be created or made. Just with machines job is done faster and easily. Capital also depends on what kind of capital that humans refers either in a form of money or machines. Money is also known as capital. To produce or start a business, we need capital in which in the form of money. To start a small or big business firstly we need capital, without a capital we cannot start the business. Even it is a small amount of money it is still considered as a capital. To start the business we have to have enough of money. Capital also can be property. If property that you own can be a capital. It can be a small piece of land which we can use to start a business. Capital is always refers to something that you put in to get the output, as you can say by putting the input which is capital and you get a output. Without input there will not be any output. The input plays a major role in getting a good output. Capital is a strong and important element to start a business or to produce. We should have a enough of capital before we start to produce or starting a business. Capital is money or machines that have a value to get a good output in the process. Capital also can be identity as a income. For example capital is something that has a value by its own. Income is important in starting a business or doing any production. Furthermore, land is defined as then surface of earth. Land is a beautiful nature resource. Land has its own advantages such as soil, land, and also minerals and timber. Land is important to start a business because without having a land its hard to start a business. Land does not only refer to the upper part but land has its own minerals rivers and etc. In the four factor of production, land is known as one of the factor. The soil in the land has a high quality. Land is depending on which kind of land is it and also where it is located. Some land is really very rich with the minerals, which can be used to produce minerals and etc. Land of ground as be known as property, estate. Business man who wants to open a factory of company will be looking for a land. For example a business man wants to open a shopping mall. The business man will be looking for a invest land or a land where is located in the centre or the town, it also will be a place to attract customers. For example the land owner can be use the land as a invest in it. Land is need for building or known as a property. Land is also can be say as a investments. Land in a good area will be a good investments place for business. Labor is define as a employees or a worker. Labor is an important elements for work to be done. To identify labor the employer has to understand the workers skills and their liabilities and their knowledge of the job. It is important to known employees physical and mental effort on the job there has. Employer has to know his or her employee liabilities before a task. Entrepreneur is define as business man who is willing to take risk in the business they are doing to have either profit of loss. As a entrepreneur he or she has to face the problem. A entrepreneur have to be a person who is very organizes person and also should have the creative in introduces new product. In the business world an entrepreneur has to be fast and also smart in handing problem. These are all the resources that we have in our Malaysia. All this factors are limited. And cannot produce more. But the needs and the wants of the humans are unlimited. As the say of Lionel Robbins which is true that humans always have unlimited of wants which is hard to satisfy. To solve this problem, by using the 3 question which is what to produces, how to produces and to whom to produces. Humans have to make a choice on what they really want and what is really very necessary in their life. Humans have to make the right choice and be happy with it. Opportunity cost plays an important role here. Opportunity cost for example in choosing the right this in food or clothes. Make a decision whether can afford it or not. Make a choice based on the money have and it also must fulfill the needs and wants as well. And also have to do sacrifice one of the needs to fulfill the needs. Opportunity plays a role in our daily life. For example in everything we have to make choice. From what we want to eat to what we want to wear we make a choice. Opportunity choice is made from what we can afford. To solve this economics problem humans have to make the choice cause its hard to satisfy everyone needs and wants with the limited resources. QUESTION2 INTRODUCTION Malaysia is mixed economy country. Mixed economy is known as government intervention in the country. Government intervention means governments interfere in the activities in the production and also distribution. Mixed economics is also known as a balanced economy. Mixed economy is government and markets take the decisions. Mixed economy is a good plan cause by the help of the government price mechanism is control. Price mechanism is define as its a generally between the supply and demand. For example went there is more demand the price of that product will go up. And went the demand goes down the price also goes down too. Price is define as the market value, the price of purchase. Price mechanism is a change according to the demand and supply. For example during raining season the price of vegetables will increase because there will be demand for the vegetables cause during raining season its hard to get vegetables. And the seller will try to sell at the higher price here where government interfere and control the price. Price is divided to two parts which is price floor and price ceilings. A Price floor is the lowest price. Price floor is done by government. Government will control so that the price of the product will not go very low. This is the way how government controls the price mechanism. Price ceilings are government puts a stop for the price of the product go too high and cannot be control. Government tends to control or put a limit to the price or the product. Examples of price floor and price ceilings are (rice, flour. petrol, sugar and etc.) The ways governments interfere. Government intervention by controlling the price of the product in the country. Each product have a standard price and government help that the product are not sell in higher price. If the product is sell in a higher price, the buyers will feel hard to buy it, by the government intervention it will help to control the price of the products. For example the price of rice, if the price of the rice increase the people who have a normal salary will feel hard to buy the rice. It will affect the country economy as well. In other ways government intervention is by giving pension to the employees after they at reach age of 60. Pension helps the employees who are retired. Besides this, government intervention by involves in social activity such as helping the (float victim) by giving them shelter and also basic needs such as food and drinks. Government also helps the poor. Government helps by giving them education. In Malaysia government gives education from standard 1 to right up to form 5. Government also gives important to environmental issues such as reduced of plastic. For example in Malaysia government has introduces not to use plastics bags on Saturday. Besides this, government encourages to use recycle bags. Government plays an important role to control the price mechanism by using the price floor and price ceilings. The price of goods rises because of the demand on the product. And also this will create a shortage in the market. To overcome this problem government has to control the price the goods every time. Government has to put a price list to solve this problem. By controlling the price government also controls the waste. As Malaysia is a mixed economy the control of price is important. By the government interfere it will help the country to have a stable economy. And the people have a control economy in the country. To solve this problem government has to control the price mechanism.

Popularity and acceptance is still continually growing. As many users see P2P software as just file sharing, entertainment industries and other big companies see it as copyright infringement and stealing from copyright owners without their rightful authorization or compensation. These companies complain that P2P file sharing threatens the survival of the industries and believe that there should be a law passed to protect the livelihood of the copyright holders. For some time now companies, copyright owners and Congress have tried to develop a security standard to protect copyrighted works from unauthorized reproduction and distribution, but they have not yet found a thoroughly effective solution. They know that shutting down all P2P networks is not the right response since file sharing is valuable to some extent since its method of sharing and transferring information supports a variety of efficient business models. Instead they want to deal with the copyright infringements that P2P networks facilitate. An option that copyright owners have considered toward protecting their works from circulating in P2P networks is to use a variety of technological tools to prevent piracy. Such tools would be capable of blocking, decoying and redirecting the connections of unauthorized copyrighted file transfers. Free Song of Solomon Essays: Erotica :: Song Solomon essays
Erotica in Song of Solomon The use of erotica can be seen very clearly in the "Song of Solomon". First of all, one must keep in mind that it comes from the bible so one will not here vulgar things or even words that you know are directly talking about sex. However, if you read closely, you can here the implicit remarks that these young lovers seems to be making, not only about each others body, but also about what each would like to do with the other. The first time that the male of the genre talks about his lover he describes her physical attributes. The most obvious is the description of her breast in which he says, "Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins"(7:3). When you here this statement one can only think that he is referring to her large perky (since she says young) perfectly round breast. When he talks about his lovers thighs, he not only praises them, he describes what the very most upper part of his lovers thighs look like: "the joints of thy thighs are like jewels"(7:1). One can only ask the question of how would this person know about someone's most upper part of their thigh, the part that is right next to the genitalia? This leaves much to the imagination. He also talks about her navel saying, "thy navel is like a round goblet, which wanteth not liquor"(7:2). When trying to interpret this quote, one must first keep in mind the fact that this is taking place during biblical times. During these times it was not proper for people to see, what was then looked at as X-rated parts of one another. Of course the exception to this rule would be if two people were married (or having an affair). So one can ask the question of how would this person know about the size and shape of another person's navel, which is hidden underneath everyday clothes? It seems not only does he know about its size and shape but also how it tastes. Again, the imagination of the reader is allowed to search the options. Not only is there sexual talk about physical appearances, but there is also talk about what will happen when the two of them are together alone. She is at one point looking for him and when she finds him she says that she held him and had him follow her and would not let go, ".
